A Modern Revival for a Growing Congregation

Location: Atlanta, GA

Architect: CDH Architect

Project Overview: Mt. Paran Church of God is one of the largest mega-churches in the urban Atlanta. Its ministry is comprised of every age group with over 12,000 members and 5,000 worshippers each Sunday. With a desire to re-envision the space, church leaders set forth to refresh the interior spaces with new paint, floor coverings and a retrofitted stage lending to a more inviting and modern atmosphere throughout the campus. Hodges & Hicks General Contractors developed a plan to successfully perform the construction activities with minimal disruption to campus operations.

Highlights:

  • Successfully navigated construction challenges on an operational campus, ensuring minimal disruption to daily activities.
  • Executed meticulous planning and coordination, allowing for sectional work in the sanctuary with seamless transitions each week.
  • Remained flexible to change, working seamlessly with leaders to ensure work was contained and plans were adjusted to accommodate workflow change requests.
  • Employed effective dust control measures, using partitions and tents to maintain clean and safe environments during construction.
  • Demonstrated strong client relationships by engaging closely with owners throughout the project, far beyond typical expectations.
  • Maintained clear communication and collaboration with all stakeholders, ensuring the client’s vision was realized with precision.
  • Delivered exceptional results thanks to a skilled field operations team and reliable subcontractors, consistently meeting client expectations.

Results: Mount Paran Church’s vision for the future was realized through a thoughtful renovation that revitalized the space while preserving its core structure. The entire interior was refreshed with a modern aesthetic, creating a warm and welcoming environment that resonates with both new and long-time members. A cohesive theme was introduced in the youth areas, transforming plain, outdated rooms into vibrant, mural-lit spaces with new LED lighting and stadium seating, turning the youth center into an energized theater-like environment. The sanctuary, the heart of the church, underwent a high-tech retrofit, updating its appearance and functionality to create a contemporary worship space. This renovation successfully breathed new energy into the church, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the congregation today and into the future.

Project Scope

This project called for a revitalization of 220,000 sf within multiple buildings on campus, creating a new modern and inviting appeal. Interior updates included repainting, carpeting, and extending the stage in the main sanctuary – all to unify the look and convert to a more contemporary worship experience.
