Modernized Amenities Offer Flexible Use and Member Benefits

Program Manager: Impact Development Management

Architect: Chapman Coyle Chapman and Associates

Interior Designer: Harris Interiors

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Project Overview: Originally chartered in 1956, Cherokee Town Club is located in the prestigious Buckhead neighborhood in Atlanta. Maintaining the highest standards in dining and member services, club leaders set out to modernize amenities, expand family dining options, and update the exterior elements to create a premier private club experience that connected more intentionally with the golf amenities and surrounding beautiful landscape. Known for their quality in craftsmanship and ability to work in sensitive settings, Hodges & Hicks General Contractors was hired to lead the construction effort and navigate the complexities associated with renovating historic structures. This project took place at the Cherokee Country Club location in Sandy Springs.

Highlights:

  • Typical of country club projects, decisions are made by committee. Hodges & Hicks leaders relied on consensus building and proactive communication to manage budget and drive schedule.
  • The Town Club remained fully operational throughout construction and golf operated at 100% for the duration of the project.
  • Construction activities were planned around special events such as the Member Guest Golf Tournament to allow continued revenue streams.
  • Collaboration with the architect and structural engineers was essential as Hodges & Hicks developed detailed plans to seamlessly tie into the existing structure and utilities while bringing the building up to code.
  • Construction crews operated “behind the scenes,” creating a back entrance to the club to maintain a member thoroughfare.
  • Golf operations and the golf pro shop were uninhibited through expert logistics planning and careful daily planning of the work.
  • Hodges & Hicks provided consistent seasoned field oversight. This led to installation of quality work and collaborative problem solving which kept the schedule on-track.

Results: Eighty Percent of the back exterior elevation of the Club was transformed. This new space provided new family dining amenities for members that led to a dramatic increase in plates served and people who attended the club for dinner. Operationally, these updates supported the flow of members and staff while improving golf cart logistics. The back porch addition increased seating capacity and exterior upgrades supported the influx of more natural light. Moving partitions provided more flexibility in space and options for hosting gatherings of varying sizes. Through collaborative efforts and a service-mindset, Hodges & Hicks exceeded expectations and delivered a club experience that led to better membership engagement.
